    Metalized polyester film, also called metalized PET film, met PET film, or aluminized PET film, is a plastic film that has been treated so that a layer of aluminum particles are put on one side of the film. The amount of aluminum applied allows for various levels of tinting. This aluminized PET film has physical, mechanical, optical, thermal, electrical and chemical properties that make it very well suited for many specialized applications. 
 

PET met is a polyester film metallized with aluminum powder. Polyester film (short: PET film) is already characterized by high strength and surface hardness. Especially with regard to the diffusion density however, the favorable properties can be improved through the use of aluminum powder.

 

Metallised films (or metallized films) are polymer films coated with a thin layer of metal, usually aluminium. They offer the glossy metallic appearance of an aluminium foil at a reduced weight and cost. Metallised films are widely used for decorative purposes and food packaging, and also for specialty applications including insulation and electronics.

 

The metallization process is a batch process. In a first step the reel with the base film is placed on to the un-winder station. The trolley (illustration 5), which is carrying the reel, is moved into the metallization chamber and a vacuum is created to reduce the boiling point of the aluminium and providing homogeneous aluminium deposition. For a better adhesion of the metal onto the film, the surface of the PET film has to be cleaned by a plasma treatment. This process can be improved by using various different gases, which is the key to produce excellent metallized PET films.

 

Polyester films are metallized via a vacuum metallization process. During this process metal is heated to its melting point in a vacuum chamber and it condenses on to a PET web.

Our Metalized PET is available in a full range of metalized tinting from fully opaque (reflective) to low level tint (transparent). Metalized PET is also offered in an array of metalized / treated or coated side variations including:

• Custom metalized tint level (range from fully opaque to light tint transparency)
